About us

Why is the POD important?

The ambition of Plymouth’s Children’s and Young People’s strategy is for every child to have the best start to life by ensuring they can access education, health care and are safeguarded from harm. Children and young people are of course dependent on factors outside their influence, such as family or their community environment which makes them more vulnerable. Our local focus of getting the right support to children, young people and families is therefore essential to ensure positive lifelong, health and wellbeing outcomes.

The aim of the directory is to offer information about advice, help and support services for children, young people and families who live and work in Plymouth.  It also supports those who work within or have an interest in family support services.

Early help is about getting support when you need it and there are lots of organisations listed in the POD directory which can help families and young people. Why not talk to your school or children’s centre to start with and they can advise you. Children’s Social care can become involved when there are more complex difficulties or children are in need of protection from harm.

Support with Confidence Accreditation

Plymouth City Council’s Trading Standards and Cooperative Commissioning & Adult Social Care have signed up to a quality assurance initiative called Support with Confidence. The scheme quality assesses care and support services so that people can be confident that every member of the scheme is reliable, trustworthy, understanding and responsive to their needs. The approval process includes a rigorous audit, thorough background checks and checks that the business ensures quality, client safety and staff training.
