About breakfast, out of school and holiday clubs

These childcare providers mainly provide care for primary aged children, although some have lowered their age group and now provide care for nursery aged children also.

Funded early year's education places can be provided if the provider meets the correct criteria.

All breakfast and out of school provision is Ofsted registered and therefore will have to meet the associated requirements. A large number of breakfast and out of school clubs are located on a school site and if run directly by the school fall under the schools Ofsted registration. The Ofsted requirements for this sector is less onerous than those who are primarily an early year's provider.

Holiday clubs are not all Ofsted registered sports, art and dance focused holiday clubs are Ofsted exempt.

Working parents are unable to claim funded early years sessions, Tax credits and tax free childcare for these providers as they are not Ofsted registered.

The breakfast, out of school and holiday club sector is more play focused and therefore tends to employ people with experience and qualifications in Playwork, sports, dance and creative learning. The play experience is based on the playwork principles.
