About nurseries and pre-schools

There are different types of nurseries including Day Nurseries, Maintained Nurseries and Nursery Schools.

In Plymouth we have a mixture of nurseries to meet the different needs of parents and carers and all nursery settings provide registered childcare for children under the age of 5.

Nurseries

Nurseries typically work around the different ages of the children and often split them in to different rooms where they have their own lead staff member. Each room within the nursery will have the correct number of qualified staff to the amount of children within that room. Nurseries all work within the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

Day nurseries provide full and part time care for children from birth to five years. Some nurseries also offer an out of school service for older children.

Maintained nurseries and nursery schools are typically term time only and can provide care for children from birth to five years.

All nurseries will have had the relevant checks, training and credentials and are regularly monitored by Ofsted and their Local Authority.

All of our nursery settings offer funded early education sessions if your child is eligible.

Pre-schools

Pre-schools are typically term time only and can provide care for children from two to five years.

All pre-schools will have had the relevant checks, training and credentials and are regularly monitored by Ofsted and their local authority.

All of our pre-school settings offer funded early education sessions if your child is eligible.
