Summer Mix Up 2020 - Plymouth Young Carers
The Community Youth Service are planning their Summer Mix Up 2020.This year we have had to think a little different due to COVID-19 and have opted to offer a range of accessible youth work delivery.
These include targeted activity boxes, universal virtual tutorials and workshops, external activities, small group centre-based sessions, Pop Up youth work, diversionary activities and lastly various creative competitions via our Youth Service Facebook page.
Targeted Activity Boxes
We are really excited to be able to offer these packages to 200 young across the city, aged between 11-19 years old. The idea is to create 3 sets of themed activity boxes for each young person to be delivered over the course of August (1 box per week for 3 weeks).
These will include:
- Art and Crafts Box - a range of versatile resources and activities that will see them through summer and beyond
- Sports Package - sports activities and equipment
- Cooking Bundle (With full instructions, recipes and produce)
We would like your help in nominating young people who are known to targeted services across Plymouth, and may not be able to access universal youth services (provisions). These packages will be filled with substantial activities which we hope will help to reduce loneliness and isolation in young people whilst promoting positive engagement within families and ultimately give the young person opportunities and activities they may not have been able to access.
Please note we are not looking to open this offer to universal services. The packages will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
Please complete the attached form and send it back to us.
Universal virtual tutorials and workshops
Plymouth Community Youth Service are also offering universal virtual tutorials and workshops as part of our Summer Mix Up! These activities can be accessed through our Plymouth Youth Service Facebook page. The youth team will be providing a step-to- step guide to making something (may be a product or a recipe) through 'Facebook Live'. Post your photos or videos please. You will need to sign up for these and a parcel will be available with confirmation of the sign up agreed at set points within the city the four main youth centres so should be accessible to all or if you would sooner the referrer can collect and deliver. This provision is available to any young person aged 11-19 across the city.
Competitions and challenges
We are looking to produce Fun challenges, ie: a weekly challenge the youth worker by demonstrating a 'skill' and young people send in their videos with the opportunity of gift vouchers prizes. This can be accessed by any young person via our Facebook page. We are also going to create a digital package such as creative competitions such as poetry, art, photography writing and more. The young people can then send in their work and a winner will be decided and sent a prize (Gift voucher)
One competition is to design a face make front, the winner will get their design put onto their very own face mask.
Pop up delivery
For example we are looking into slacklining, foot golf, Plymbridge bike trail, 10 young people at a time all socially distanced. We are waiting on confirmation to this being allowed
Pop Up provision across neighbourhoods and hot spot areas
The activities are subject to change due to staff/ provider availabilities, but this will be confirmed and communicated in the next couple of weeks.
