COVID-19 SEND are annual reviews still taking place

During the coming weeks, we know that some schools and colleges are closing or partially closing.

Annual reviews that are due during this time will be affected.

Educational settings and the 0-25 SEND team will work together to ensure that children/young people and their families feel safe and supported.

Reviews may need to take place virtually, through email, phone conversations or perhaps Skype.

It might be that you feel the review could be postponed, as very little has changed and people are not available. The setting will offer a virtual meeting before postponing an annual review and only postpone, once a meeting has been offered to you and you are all in agreement. If this is your decision, please do let the 0-25 SEND Team know senadmin@plymouth.gov.uk

We know this is a difficult and unprecedented time for us all, and we fully appreciate how unsure educational settings and parents will be in managing the usual SEND practices.

Our first priorities are that children and families are safe and supported through this.

We have been looking at how we manage annual reviews with you as we move through the next few months.

To help us help you with annual reviews we have considered different ways you may wish to conduct an Annual Review for children and young people with Education, Health and Care plans, to make it as safe, efficient and 'electronic' as possible.

We would suggest, wherever possible, a 'Virtual' annual review is held.

The same systems would be in place as a usual review, where the setting writes to parents, and all those who have worked with the child or young person, 4 weeks in advance, requesting updates by the 'Virtual' annual review date.

You may choose to ask for contributions via phone or email, as well as the submission reports.

The setting completes the annual review paperwork within two weeks after the Virtual annual review date.

We ask that parents views should be in writing (as an attachment email for example) and wherever possible, the contribution from the child/young person. If a student is in Year 11/Post 16, and intending to leave a setting to start another, please include the Young Person's contribution, along with information about their future placement.
