First Response Service
Adults in Plymouth struggling with their mental health will be able to get immediate support thanks to a new initiative from Livewell Southwest.
The First Response Service supports those who may be experiencing problems with their mental health.
The service, staffed by mental health professionals, will provide advice, support and signposting to anyone aged over 18 in Plymouth experiencing a mental health crisis between 8am and 8pm seven days a week.
You do not need to be an existing service user of Livewell and the line is also open to other health and care professionals and emergency responders such as the police who may need advice when supporting someone with mental health difficulties.
The helpline is available on 0800 923 9323. If all lines are busy, your call will be placed in a queue.
Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) offer support to people who have serious or long-term mental health conditions within their community. In Plymouth, Livewell Southwest has four CMHTs which are mapped to mirror the locations of different GP practices around the city.
The teams are made up of different professionals who each bring a unique set of skills and expertise to the service including: mental health nurses; occupational therapists; consultant psychiatrists; mental health support workers; clinical psychologists and links to a specialist psychotherapy service.
Dignity and respect are at the centre of the Livewell Southwest CMHTs' approach. People who use the service will be consulted about all elements of their care, and be actively involved in what their care plan needs to include in order to best meet their individual needs. They can expect for their care to be tailored around them as a person, and take into account any specific needs related to their culture, ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, religion and/or disability.
Referral to the CMHT is made via your GP. Once referred, you can expect to be listened to, and have any concerns taken seriously, and addressed promptly. Our staff will always act in the best interests of the people they support, in line with professional codes of conduct and our own Livewell Southwest policies. You will also have the right to decide how to involve your relatives or carers, or to request privacy.
Livewell Southwest provides a wide range of services for people requiring support to improve or manage their mental health. These services are provided both within the community and across a variety of inpatient settings. For more information on these services please click on the relevant links below.
