If you are severely overweight and would like support, the Weight Management service is a specialist service that can help. To access the program you must be a Plymouth resident with a BMI of over 40, or over 35 with other medical problems. If your referral is accepted, you will receive an invitation to attend an induction session with a specialist weight management nurse; this friendly and non-judgemental session will give you detailed information about what you can expect from the service.
The specialist team, which includes nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, clinical psychologist and a consultant, will support you with lifestyle changes during a mainly group-based programme. We take a holistic approach; encouraging activity, changing eating habits and looking at how thinking or feeling affects our eating. This service is not available to people under the age of 18, those who are pregnant, people who are not mobile or those who are unwilling or unable to take part in group sessions.
If you are interested in being referred for support from the weight management service, please contact your GP or specialist nurse. If you do not meet the criteria for the weight management service, you may be more suited to the One You Plymouth Eat Well programme
