Derriford Hospital is the main Sexual Health in Plymouth (SHiP) hub. 

We offer STI testing and treatment, HIV care, routine and emergency contraception, and abortion services. 

The G.U.M. (Genito-Urinary Medicine) clinic is an NHS run clinic for all aspects of sexual health.

Sexual Health in Plymouth (SHiP) at Derriford Hospital offers screening and treatment for the following sexual infections and other genital conditions:

  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Candidiasis
  • Chlamydia
  • Epididymo-orchitis
  • Genital Herpes
  • Genital warts
  • Gonorrhoea
  • Lymphogranuloma venereum
  • Molluscum contagiosum
  • Non Specific Urethritis (NSU)
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Pubic lice Scabies
  • Syphilis
  • Thrush
  • Trichomonas vaginalis 

We also offer screening for and vaccination against Hepatitis B and screening for Hepatitis C to those who are at risk of these infections. Remember you may have a sexually transmitted infection and not have any symptoms. If you are worried, come and get checked.

Free condoms are available at all SHiP sites, or as part of the C-Card scheme at various sites C-Card sites across the city.

Pregnancy 

We can help with all aspects of pregnancy testing.

Have an unplanned pregnancy and don't know what to do?  Whatever you decide we will give you the help and support you may need.

Please ring us on 01752 431124 for an appointment. 

Contraception 

We can provide all methods of contraception including emergency contraception and oral contraceptives. There are many other types of contraception including long-acting methods, which may be more effective than 'the pill' such as: 

  • The Implant
  • Intrauterine Device (IUD)
  • Intrauterine System (IUS/ Mirena)
  • Progesterone Injection (Depo)

  • Walk-in and wait sessions Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 10.30am
