Students and Refugees Together (START)
START offers practical, social and emotional support in the form of information, advocacy and advice.
Supporting refugees to settle in Plymouth and the far southwest. Providing innovative placement opportunities for students
START receives referrals of asylum seeker and refugee families and individuals from other agencies or individuals in Plymouth. Typically, those referred have needs which are either too complex to be answered by one agency or are being expressed in ways which do not provoke an appropriate and helpful response.
START workers act as a bridge, making contact with other agencies which can be of help, advocating on behalf of the service user and introducing the user to the agency.
START has also developed social inclusion networking events, focused on the cultural Kitchen and cultural celebrations which normally include art and craft activities, sport, games, music and conservation work.
