Astor Hall - Care Home
Under the Mayhaven Care umbrella, Astor Hall is a family-run care home near Stoke Village that provides accommodation for people who require personal care (not nursing). This care home has been running for longer than 50 years and is situated within the conservation area of Stoke in a traditional Victorian building. We provide care mainly for younger physically disabled adults (18-65 years old) and for older physically disabled (65+ years old)
We also provide Respite and a Day Care Service.
The service is provided for up to 26 people over the age of 18 with any form of significant physical disability. We have experience with clients who have suffered strokes; or have conditions that effect their mobility as well reablement for clients following hospital stays. We have also experience with clients with conditions such as MS, Cerebral Palsy and clients who have a learning disability.
The home is located in a large detached building beside Stoke village in the Devonport area of Plymouth. A full range of amenities and facilities are a short distance from the home and the service has its own vehicles.
Astor Hall can accommodate up to twenty-six clients over three floors. The dining room, kitchen and main lounge are on the ground floor level and a second quiet lounge is located on the first floor. A shaft lift accesses all floors in the building and all areas in the building are fully wheelchair accessible. There are a number of bath and shower rooms in the building including a wheel in shower and a fully accessible side-opening bath. All the bedrooms are single, though none have en suite toilet facilities.
Astor Hall has a large dining room, a very large lounge and activities area amongst other smaller communal areas. There is a large area of parking space and garden to the front of the building. Also to the front of the building is a fully accessible patio area enabling residents to sit outside the building.
Astor operates a day care facility Monday to Friday. Transport and meals can be provided at cost, or clients can make their own arrangements.
We do accept respite care bookings subject to availability. This service is for clients wanting to visit Plymouth or for families who need a caring break. We keep a room available for respite care year round, although this is a very popular facility, and we recommend that you book well in advance.
We pride ourselves on enabling people to fulfil their potential and to continue their lives as independently as possible.
The home has 26 single bedrooms, all with fitted hand basin. Each room has wardrobes, chests of drawers amongst other furniture. However, we find that often clients bring in their own furniture to suit their own tastes and needs. We also encourage clients to decorate their rooms as they wish, including paint colours, curtains and bedding, carpets and light fittings.
We have only owned this home for a very short period of time, and as part of our improvement plans for the home we intend to refurbish every room.
