Personal statement

I have worked within Adult Social Care for in excess of 23 years and prior to that for a short while on a voluntary basis. During this time I have worked with people who have wide ranging ability levels.

I have worked in both day services and residential short breaks. I have worked with people who have found themselves in crisis and needed very specific support.

I have supported people to undertake a wide range of activity in a variety of settings.

I have also advocated for people when required.

I have seen the role of a support worker develop over the years and as a manager supported staff to modernise their practice and to take on a person centred approach and to recognise people as individuals and having needs and wishes.

Having worked in adult social care for over 20 years, in both day provision and residential short breaks I feel I have gained the necessary experience and skills to support people in a way they wish to be supported to do what they want to do. I have seen the value of person centred working and as a PA I am in a good position to offer this person centred support to people.
