All parents discovering their children has a special need or disability should have access to emotional support. Face 2 Face is a service for, and delivered by, parents of children with a special need or disability. We take referrals from any family accessing services in Plymouth with or without a diagnosis and match them with a local volunteer parent, who themselves have disabled children, to act as "befrienders".
Our main objectives are:
- To ensure that parents who discover their child has a disability are supported to understand their child's special need or disability and their own feelings about the diagnosis.
- To communicate the long term benefits to be derived from the empathetic presence of a parent who has personal experience of disability.
- To enable parents to become empowered and therefore able to manage their families situation.
- To inform and educate parents and service providers about the complex emotional issues surrounding a child with disabilities.
