Every council has to set up a Local Safeguarding Children Board which is responsible for improving the wellbeing of children in the area. The board includes representatives from:
- the council
- the police
- health services
- probation services
- the local youth offending team
- the Children and Family Courts Advisory and Support Service
It can also include other people or organisations that work with children such as the NSPCC.
What the board does
The Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board coordinates the work of everyone on the board to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in Plymouth and publishes policies and procedures for child protection. They have an independent Chair, (someone who doesn't work for social services) who works closely with the Director of Children's Services.
