We are a referral based service, providing support to vulnerable young people in the city by professionally qualified and highly experienced youth workers. We are able to support young people through a number of ways including:
Key work support
- Key Work offers ‘one to one’ work to young people to address a range of issues including low self-esteem, healthy relationships, sexual health and ‘staying safe’ work.
- ‘Transitions’ support may be offered to the young person as an alternative to key work. ‘Transitions’ will offer short term support, exploring the young person’s interests with the aim of accessing them into positive activities.
Who can refer
We receive referrals from young people, parents, schools CAMHs and through Social Care. Referrals are made by the completion of a TYS Referral Form which should be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
All referrals are assessed at a Referral Hub that meets on a weekly basis, which will determine if key work is appropriate to meet the young person’s needs.
Some young people may only require information about youth provision in the city. In this instance TYS will arrange for a youth worker to make contact with the young person, then offer to meet them at one of the youth centres or projects under the TYS ‘Direct Access’ arrangements as a means of support.
TYS offers support to young people 16 to 18 years of age who are faced with becoming homeless. This is a referral based service where the young person presents at the Plymouth ‘Zone’ for an initial assessment of their needs. The TYS homelessness team will provide a wide range of support to enable the young person to return home. Support will continue to ensure that the young person remains at home which is in most cases the best place for them to be. If this is not possible the youth workers will liaise with colleagues in the Housing Department and Children’s Social Care to explore other options of accommodation.
